Voters open more of the county to alcohol sales
On Nov. 3, precinct and city measures cleared the way for mixed-beverage licenses in places that had been dry or limited.
Bastrop County voters on Nov. 3 approved the legal sale of all alcoholic beverages, including mixed drinks, in each of the county’s four justice of the peace precincts and in Bastrop, Elgin, and Smithville.
Support ran from about 74% to about 80%, according to unofficial results covered by Community Impact. County tourism and economic development staff have said the ballots were meant to clean up old boundary quirks—places where one storefront could sell alcohol and a neighboring one could not.
A yes vote is not a license. A business still has to clear the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission. Local canvassing of the election falls between Nov. 6 and Nov. 17 under the Texas Secretary of State’s window.
